“BEFORE THE 72”
SUMMER CHALLENGE
BEFORE THE 72:
Do you go to the movies early and sit through the twenty+ minutes of pre-roll? The commercials, the lobby cards, the Public Service Announcements, the countdowns and “Let’s all go to the Lobby” jingles?
We want to add that bit of fun and nostalgia to 72 Film Fest!
This Summer you are challenged with making a 30 second Movie Theater ad!
We’re gonna separate it into 3 different categories. Each Team is CHALLENGED to do 1 Ad but may do 1 in each category (so 3 max). This Summer Challenge is NOT mandatory. Each team that submits an entry will receive an extra ticket to the Fest. NOTE: We do not want Movie Trailers (real or fake) for this challenge.
CATEGORIES:
1) Movie Theater/72 Film Fest/Lobby Ad. Think concession/lobby ads, No Texting/Talking and other audience conduct rule announcements, Theater (or 72 Film Fest) Animations (like the roller coaster at Regal, or an iMax animation), Comedy Sketches promoting the theater etc.
2) Fake Product/Service Ads. Think of the ads you see before the films: local companies, cars, jewelry, lawyers, experiences. The catch, the rules, whatever? It’s gotta be a fake product, a fake website, a fake business. Don’t try to advertise your Uncle’s pool cleaning business or your video production company.
3) Hollywood/Filmmaking (in Frederick). Think Maria Menounous (or another celebrity) welcoming you to the theater or talking about the upcoming (fake) blockbusters, Movie Trivia slides, or the Nicole Kidman inspirational video before AMC.
RULES:
Must be registered for 72 Film Fest 2024.
Must be original creations for “Before the 72”.
Can be 15 or 30 Seconds.
No Movie Trailers (existing or fake).
No use of Copyright Film/Music/Brands/Products/Logos etc.
No advertisement of actual existing (or soon to be existing) business/product/brands/services including your own team. Feel free to use broad terms like candy/popcorn/refreshments etc or fake companies /products /concessions.
Don’t say Weinberg Center (say Theater, or Movie Theater).
You CAN say 72 Film Fest anywhere you want (have at it- make us proud… or sad).
No Credits or Team Logos etc.
No Politics.
Due by the Last Day of Summer: Sep 22 2024.
This Challenge NOT MANDATORY to participate in the Fest in the Fall.
NOTES:
Any Year 19 participating team is invited to participate AND if you’ve got multiple creatives on your team with conflicting ideas, feel free to create up to 1 in each category!
We’ll be playing our faves, and possibly all of them at some point during the Fest season (Friday/Saturday and/or Launch). While this isn’t mandatory to participate in the FALL- Every team that submits an ad will get an extra ticket to 72 Film Fest in Fall.
ALSO – for those that know us all too well, These videos will NOT turn into Criteria for the Fest. This isn’t Script Fest. The Year 19 Theme is completely unrelated to this and will not be revealed until Launch. Have fun this Summer and See you at at the Weinberg in the Fall!
